General Education Requirements

A minimum of 120 hours is required for all bachelor degrees awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences. Some professional programs require more credit hours. Please refer to individual programs for specific information. Candidates for all bachelor degrees must complete the requirements of the general education curriculum, which encompasses four major areas of study:

  1. Written Composition
  2. Humanities and Fine Arts
  3. Natural Sciences and Mathematics
  4. History, Social and Behavioral Sciences

The student should work with an academic advisor to plan his or her course of study in each of these four areas of the general education curriculum. The courses should be planned with an emphasis placed on continuity of information and compatibility with the student's major field(s) of study.
