Students with the following test scores are required to take special courses to help ensure their success at USA.

 

  • ACT composite score less than 19 or an SAT sum of the SATCR (critical reading) and SATM (math) scores less than 910.

 

These required special courses will help you achieve your academic and career goals. Your success is important to us, so be sure that you understand the following requirements.

 

SPECIAL COURSEWORK

English

REQUIRED IF:

DS 014 Writing (3 hours)

Meets the requirement for LAS 100.

Recommended if:

ACT English Score less than 15

SAT Critical Reading less than 400

LAS 100 Language Arts and Skills (3 hours)

Lecture/web-enhanced

ACT English Score less than 19

SAT Critical Reading less than 470

Reading

REQUIRED IF:

RDG 152 College Reading (2 hours)

Lecture/web-enhanced

ACT Reading Score less than 19

SAT Critical Reading less than 480

RDG 153 College Reading (3 hours)

Meets the requirement for RDG 152.

Recommended if:

ACT Reading Score less than 15

SAT Critical Reading less than 400

Math

REQUIRED IF:

DS 082 Introductory Algebra (3 hours)

(classroom lab/web-enhanced)

Math Placement Exam Score 50-59

MTH 100 Intermediate College Algebra (3 hours)

Classroom lab/web-enhanced

Math Placement Exam Score 60-69

*MA 110 Finite Mathematics (3 hours)

Only for certain majors (replaces MTH 100)

Math Placement Exam Score 60-69

or

*Math Placement Exam Score 70-79

 

*MA 110 is for majors not requiring Precalculus Algebra or higher level mathematics.

(MA 110 is not a prerequisite for any subsequent mathematics or statistics course.)

 

  • Enrollment in required courses must begin first semester and continue each semester until all classes are completed with an A, B, or C.

 

  • Registration is limited to 14 semester hours each term (with the exception of student athletes), until all required courses are completed with a grade of A, B, or C.

 

 

  • Advising will occur in the Department of Developmental Studies until you complete your required courses.

 

  • Failure to complete special required courses with A, B, or C within three semesters of enrollment, or within 36 credit hours attempted, will result in a one semester suspension from the university.
