There is a lot of stress that rises when students are earning their degree in college. Unfortunately, students sometimes turn to drugs and alcohol to ease the stress that comes during each semester. Alcohol and drug abuse is quite common among college students. Abuse of either alcohol or drugs can lead to physical, mental, social, and even academic problems.

Addiction can lead to harm of the individual using the drugs and alcohol but can also harm other individuals around them. A few risks include negative effects of secondhand smoke, increased spread of infectious diseases, and increased risk of motor vehicle accidents. A few signs to look out for are withdrawal, mood changes, poor personal appearance, avoiding friends or family, no longer participating in routine activities, legal troubles, lying about drug or alcohol use, and physical or mental problems.
