There are SO many great reasons to live on campus – you’ll do better in school, make lifelong friends, have a built-in support system, and live close to everything. South students are not required to live on campus...they choose to!

USA Housing has moved to a brand new housing management system, called My USAHousing.

Once admitted to USA, apply for housing through your student housing portal, My USAHousing, where you will complete the steps below. More detailed information can be found in My USAHousing (your Jag Number and JagMail password is required for access).

SPRING 2017 ROOM ASSIGNMENTS
Room assignments for new spring semester students are made in mid-December based on the student's contract completion date. Assignments are based on space availability at the time the assignments are made. After assignments are made an email will be sent to your University email (JagMail) with instructions on how to view your assignment inside My USAHousing.

SPRING 2017 ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS
Space is more limited for new spring semester assignments, which may prevent us from accommodating specific roommate requests. However, if you have someone in mind, you may submit a roommate request (see instructions below) and we will make every effort to accommodate your request. If you do not submit a roommate request, we will use your selected room preferences to guide us in making your assignment, based on availability.

Roommate Request Instructions: Roommate requests may be submitted by sending your full name and Jag number as well as the full name and Jag number of your preferred roommate in an email to housing@southalabama.edu. Please keep in mind all roommate requests must be mutual and in writing so your requested roommate will also need to send us an email requesting you as their roommate OR list you on their housing contract when submitted.

PAYMENT DEADLINE
Your housing and meal plan charges will be added to your student account once your assignment has been made. All University charges, including housing and meal plan charges, are typically due by the 3rd business day of the week prior to classes each semester. Visit USA's Academic Calendar to learn the exact date.

For Academic Year 2017 - 2018

As soon as you are admitted to the University of South Alabama you should apply for housing. Those who complete their contract early will have the largest selection of campus housing locations and types. We offer two types of hall/room assignment processes for the academic year contract term:

  • Housing Contract completed by May 1st: you will be eligible to pick your hall and room, based on availability. Invitations to self-assign (choose your hall and room) will be sent to your JagMail in early May. You will be given a specific time slot (day and time) to participate in Room Selection based on the date your housing contract was completed. The earlier you complete your contract, the earlier you will have access to self-assign. Those who do not participate in Room Selection will be assigned by USA Housing.
  • Housing Contract completed after May 1st: USA Housing will assign your hall and room, taking into consideration your selected preferences (based on availability). If your roommate is in the self-assign group they can “pull” you into a hall with them during self-assign (based on availability).

To help you get started, and make sure you get everything completed, we have developed a step-by-step checklist for each assignment process below.
