Make sure the USA Office of Admissions has all official documents including transcripts, test scores, and any college credits earned through dual enrollment, AP courses, IB courses, or while attending another institution. This will help make your class registration process easier.
Only admitted students may sign up for orientation. Use the left navigation menu and select your status (Freshmen or Transfer, Transient, & Adult Freshman) and the term you will be enrolling (fall or spring/summer) to view instructions on how to sign up for your orientation.
Considering living on campus? Once you've been admitted to South, you'll use your Jag
number and JagMail password to login to My USAHousing and begin your housing contract. Those who complete their contract early will have
the largest selection of campus housing locations and types.
ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Those who complete their contract by March 1 will be eligible to self-select their residence hall and room through the 'Room Selection' process (conducted in My USAHousing), based on availability. Those who complete their contract after March 1 will be assigned by USA Housing.
ROOMMATES: Students have the option of selecting their roommate(s) or receiving a random roommate. If you would like to find a roommate, there are a number of ways to do it; social media, during an on campus visit, or by using the USA Housing roommate search program. The program is inside the My USAHousing portal, as part of your housing contract. All students will fill out a roommate profile and questionnaire as part of their housing application, even if the student does not plan to use the Roommate Search function. Then it is up to the student (participation is optional) to reach out to others through the Roommate Matching process once it opens.

The priority deadline for financial aid is May 1. Apply as soon as you file your taxes to ensure the best turnaround time. Check your JagMail for important notices from Financial Aid once you've submitted your online application.
Join a Learning Community
Learning communities are the path to student success at South! We expect all entering freshman to join a community, which includes courses required for your degree program or chosen major. This year, we offer communities that include multiple courses- in some cases your entire schedule! Preregistration for your learning community will begin on May 1. Watch for our guidebook and sign up for classes before you come to campus for orientation.
Immunizations, Health Records, & Insurance
Each new student accepted for admission must submit, prior to registration, immunization information and records through the Student Health Web Portal: https://studenthealth.southalabama.edu. Mailed or faxed documents will not be accepted. If you're interested in the Student & Scholar Health Insurance, be sure to review the health insurance plan information for details.
Be Jag Healthy
You must complete a brief on-line alcohol prevention program prior to your orientation session. Please complete the Alcohol eCHECKUP TO GO. Your responses will remain confidential. Please authorize electronic verification using your Jag Number.
Jag Number, PAWS, and JagMail E-mail Account
Your Jag number can be found on your letter of admission. You will need this to log into PAWS to register for classes. PAWS is USA's Personal Access Web System. Here you can find information about your account, housing, transcripts, and personal information.
There are two ways to submit your student ID picture:
1. You can submit your student ID picture on-line.
2. You can take your student ID picture when you arrive on campus for your orientation session.
Students will be permitted to enroll in mathematics classes based on a pre-requisite course, Math ACT score, Math SAT score, or the mathematics placement test. Please read the course placement information.
- Any student admitted to USA with an ACT or SAT score and wishes to be placed into a higher math may complete the math placement exam.
Requesting a Major Change
Please fill out and submit the Change of Major form. Please submit this form at least ten business days prior to your orientation date.
