Office of the President

Hello and welcome to the University of South Alabama!

There are many reasons why you should consider USA, but first on your list should be the people.  That’s why I came to the University of South Alabama.  The people at USA are dedicated to your success.  It’s that dedication that has allowed the University to grow and prosper in a very short time.

The University of South Alabama is a comprehensive, global university that offers students a quality education in a variety of fields.  USA offers nearly 100 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees through its nine colleges and schools and is ranked “Research University/High” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  USA annually enrolls more than 15,000 students and has awarded more than 77,000 degrees, and the University’s annual economic impact now exceeds $3 billion.

USA is a rapidly growing academic institution, with the goal of reaching 20,000 students within ten years.  We’re large enough to offer the programs students need, yet small enough to care about students as individuals.  In fact, more than 70 percent of our classes have fewer than 30 students!

USA offers instruction in theCollege of Arts and Sciences, the Mitchell College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions, the School of Computing, the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs, and the Harrison School of Pharmacy (with Auburn University).

The University also has a campus in Baldwin County, providing more opportunity and convenience for students living in one of the state’s fastest-growing counties.

Student scholarships are more accessible than ever, thanks to the new Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative, which you can learn more about by clicking here.  The University is proud of its scholarship program and the success of its USA Honors Program in recognizing and rewarding academically talented students, while also helping students receive need-based aid.

In close association with USA’s academic programs in Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Professions, the USA Health System provides an important classroom for educating health care professionals while offering advanced and innovative care through the USA Medical Center, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital, USA Mitchell Cancer Institute and the USA Physicians Group.

USA is one of the top five universities in the state in competitively funded research, giving students more opportunities to work with faculty on projects that impact a wide range of human issues, from the environment to health care to education to the arts and humanities.

In addition to outstanding academic programs, our students enjoy a variety of social, cultural, entertainment and athletic activities that contribute to a well-rounded college experience.  Campus life at USA has been greatly enhanced with the recent addition of new football and marching band programs, which complement our other outstanding sports, some of which are nationally ranked!

USA’s Mitchell Center is home to Jaguar basketball, concerts and a host of other exciting activities.  A multi-million-dollar Intramural Field Complex also provides students a wide range of activities, and a campus-wide transit system, JagTran, makes campus travel more convenient.  All student services can be found under one roof at Meisler Hall.

Several recent additions that have further enhanced academic and campus life for students include a state-of-the-art Student Recreation Center, a beautiful new dining hall, two new residence halls, the Health Sciences Building for Nursing and Allied Health Professions, a glass arts studio, Moulton Tower and Alumni Plaza, and the new Shelby Hall for Engineering and Computing Sciences.

USA students also benefit from major renovations and expansion of the USA Bookstore, Student Center and Marx Library.  In addition, internship opportunities for students are provided by businesses in USA’s Technology and Research Park.

South Alabama students enjoy diverse opportunities for campus involvement through student government, the Greek system, student media, numerous special interest organizations, and a thriving intramural athletic program.

With quality academic programs, rich extracurricular opportunities, competitive costs and a beautiful coastal environment, the University of South Alabama may be just right for you.
