The University of South Alabama today honored three state winners of the Distinguished Young Women program this fall with a scholarship signing ceremony. There are a total of seven state winners currently enrolled at USA.
Sophomore Boni Yraguen, freshman Aleks Knepper, and freshman Jeannie St. Onge, have each received scholarships to attend USA. The students were welcomed with a scholarship signing ceremony and luncheon held Tuesday, Nov. 12.
"The University of South Alabama is honored to be the university of choice for these outstanding students," said USA Acting President Dr. John Smith. "More than a dozen Distinguished Young Women from throughout the country, all of whom had higher education opportunities elsewhere, have attended USA, including seven who are students today. We look forward to watching them grow and develop into tomorrow's leaders."
This scholarship program is part of USA’s mission to educate and train the next generation of leaders for Mobile, the region, the nation and abroad.

Sophomore Boni Yraguen of Roseburg, Ore., is a mechanical engineering major. Yraguen is a member of South Fit, Society of Women Engineers, Society of Mechanical Engineering, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Alpha Chi Honor Society and Phi Mu Sorority. Yraguen is Distinguished Young Woman of Oregon 2012. She is the daughter of Juan and Kristin Yraguen.
Freshman Aleks Knepper of Frostburg, Md., is a communication major. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and the Freshman Leadership Community. Knepper is Distinguished Young Woman of Maryland 2013. She is the daughter of Joan Andorfer.
Freshman Jeannie St. Onge of Avon, Conn., is an international studies and French major. She is a member of Circle K International and the Freshman Leadership Community. St. Onge is Distinguished Young Woman of Connecticut 2013. She is the daughter of Rick and Cindy St. Onge.
