Housed on the main campus within the Mitchell College of Business, the Center for Real Estate and Economic Development serves as the Coastal Region’s leading information source for business, economic, and real estate market activity. The Center’s core functions include:

  1. Academics: The Center supports and promotes the Real Estate Concentration offered through the Mitchell College of Business’ Department of Economics and Finance.
  2. Professional education: The Center presents multiple professional and continuing education opportunities for practitioners in the fields of real estate, law, accountancy, appraisal, and insurance.
  3. Business analytics: The Center conducts extensive business and economic analysis and research in support of the decision- and policy-making processes of businesses, governmental entities, and non-profit organizations.

The Center actively seeks to build strategic public and private partnerships to promote the growth and development of the Coastal Region. 

Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The mission of the Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) is to inspire, innovate, integrate, and implement new ways of thinking. Education, research, and outreach that positively impact students, the regional economy, the state of Alabama, and the nation are the tools used to fulfill this mission.

The MCEI plays a leadership role in stimulating and nurturing economic development. The MCEI leverages its resources to elevate the University of South Alabama entrepreneurship and economic development programs by providing opportunities to improve entrepreneurship education, expand the university impact on the economy of the region, and raise the impact of the component programs within the Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The key focus areas of the Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation are the Family Business Institute, Social Enterprise Academy, Technology Commercialization Council, Coastal Financing Resources Group, and CEO/Jaguar Consulting.
