All Residence Hall contracts that originate in the fall semester are two semester contracts (fall and spring semesters). If you sign a Residence Hall contract for fall semester and remain enrolled for the following spring semester, you are obligated to the Residence Hall contract, which includes responsibility for paying the rent for that spring semester. During the contract period, you may change housing areas or rooms after the second week of classes by completing the necessary paperwork in your area office. |

Get to know your Roommate |
|
| |
One of the best things about living on campus is meeting new people. While rooming with a friend from home may seem great, rooming with someone you don't know has advantages too. You'll broaden your perspective and, it's often easier to express your likes and dislikes with someone you are just getting to know.
Take time to write or call your roommate before you arrive on campus. You'll discover each other's likes and dislikes, and you can coordinate who brings what. This one simple step will go a long way in breaking the ice for the first day and you won't end up with two microwaves and no refrigerator.
The Roommate Contract can help you and your roommate put your thoughts about living together in concrete, written terms. You and your roommate(s) should decide such things as study time, guests, use of personal property, and housekeeping.
You should be honest and listen to each other, and be willing to compromise. By coming to mutual agreements on important issues, you can avoid conflicts. But what if your efforts do not work? First, you should ask your resident advisor (RA) or area coordinator for assistance in resolving the situation. Then, if all of your efforts are not successful, beginning two weeks after the first day of classes you may go to your area office and request a room change. |
