What is REDCap?
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is an easy-to-use, secure, web-based application for capturing, using, and sharing research or performance improvement data. The University of South Alabama is a member of the REDCap consortium. Details about REDCap's general security features can be found at REDCap Technical Overview.
Requirements for REDCap
REDCap is primarily intended for faculty and staff of the University of South Alabama (USA), the Mitchell Cancer Institute, the USA Medical Center and the USA Children's & Women's Hospital. Students can apply for access when affiliated with a sponsoring faculty member. Faculty may also request accounts for unaffiliated collaborators. Unaffiliated users will have access to assigned REDCap projects, but will not be able to create new projects themselves.
Personal Health Information:
Only de-identified patient or personal health information can be entered into REDCap.
Human Subjects Research:
If you are collecting data for the purpose of human subjects research, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is required. More information can be found at IRBNet.
Please note that any publication that results from a project utilizing REDCap should cite the following.
Paul A. Harris, Robert Taylor, Robert Thielke, Jonathon Payne, Nathaniel Gonzalez, Jose G. Conde, Research electronic data capture (REDCap) - A metadata-driven methodology and workflow process for providing translational research informatics support, J Biomed Inform. 2009 Apr;42(2):377-81.
