Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontological CNS with Advanced Oncology Nursing Subspecialty
BSN-DNP
The Department of Health and Human Services has funded a proposal for a post-baccalaureate Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult-Gerontology CNS Doctorate of Nursing Practice program with Advanced Oncology Nursing Specialization.
Graduates of this program will earn a DNP degree and be eligible to sit for the Adult Nurse Practitioner or Adult CNS examination. In addition, graduates completing the required oncology clinical practice hours will be eligible for the AOCNS or AONP examinations.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has set a 2015 date for full implementation of the DNP as the entry level for advanced practice.
The Oncology subspecialization will allow graduates to provide advanced nursing care to patients living with cancer as well as their families, cancer survivors, and communities. Graduates will be prepared to bring the most current evidence to the bedside of oncology patients. Advanced practice oncology nurses work within their communities to provide cancer prevention strategies such as education and screening. Oncology APNs provide a voice of advocacy for the continuation of adequate cancer research and funding in today’s financial and political climate. Graduates of this program will be making a difference in the care of cancer patients today and in generations to come.
Requirements for Admission:
The requirements for admission to the DNP program are located on the DNP Home Page and in the University of South Alabama Undergraduate/Graduate Bulletin.
