These
are very challenging times for colleges of education. Globalism,
multiculturalism, and emerging technologies all compete for our
attention and foster the need for life-long learning and a renewed
commitment to improve the communities of which we are all a part. Despite the heightened attention to terrorism globally, improving
education has become the single most important domestic issue facing
the nation today. Education in and for a democracy remains the single
most powerful force we have for ensuring full participation in all that our
society has to offer its citizens. As Thomas Jefferson expressed: "I
know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but
the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to
exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not
to take it from them but to inform their discretion." The programs
in this library are addressed to a set of current and emerging issues
in higher education intended to enlighten and to inform your
discretion. Take a few minutes to browse our library and consider the
issues that engage us as educators as we work together to improve
education for every citizen. Enjoy your listening.
