Alumni Scholarships

Alumni dues and proceeds from various fund raisers and the alumni affinity car tag program help fund scholarships such as the Children of Alumni, Freshman, and Senior awards. All Scholarship Applications will be available January 2015.

University of South Alabama National Alumni Association Port City Scholarship
The USA National Alumni Association Port City Chapter Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding entering freshman who is a full-time resident of Mobile County, AL. Academics, activities, and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarship. Recipient will be notified by mail in late April.

William J. Sirmon Graduate Student Scholarship
The USA National Alumni Association William J. Sirmon Graduate Student Scholarship is a one-time (non-renewable) $1,000 tuition fee waiver. Academics and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarship. The scholarship will be disbursed in two installments beginning Fall Semester . Only completed applications will be reviewed by the Alumni Scholarship Selection Committee. Recipient will be notified by mail in late April.

Madge and Gladys Outlaw Scholarship
The Madge and Gladys Outlaw Freshman Scholarship and the USA National A/umni Association Freshman Scholarships are awarded to outstanding entering freshmen at USA. Academics, activities, and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarships. The $2,500 one-year (non-renewable) scholarships are tuition-feewaivers and will be awarded for the Fall Semester 2014. Candidates must have a minimum of a 23 ACT/SAT Score and a 3.0 cumulative grade point in ordered to be considered for the scholarships. Semester disbursement is based upon the individual being enrolled as a full-time student at USA, actively participating in University activities and maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA. If the student does not meet these standards, he or she will be requested to appear before the Alumni Scholarship Selection Committee. Only completed applications will be reviewed by the Alumni Scholarship Selection Committee. Recipient will be notified by mail prior to April 30th.

Patrick E. and Mary F. Hicks Book Scholarship Allen J. Pearl Book Scholarship
The USA National Alumni Association Scholarships (Patrick E. and Mary F. Hicks Book Scholarship and the Allen J. Pearl Book Scholarship) are designed to recognize a student who has achieved success in extracurricular as well as academic endeavors at the University of South Alabama. Academics, activities, and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarships, as well as financial need. The two $500 book scholarship will be awarded at the beginning of the Fall Semester . Only completed applications will be reviewed by the Alumni Scholarship Selection Committee. Recipients will be notified by mail in late April.

Children of Alumni Scholarship
The USA National Alumni Association Children of Alumni Scholarship is a one-time (non-renewable) $2,500 tuition fee waiver. Academics, activities, and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarship. The scholarship will be disbursed in two installments beginning Fall Semester . Only completed applications will be reviewed by the Alumni Scholarship Selection Committee. Recipient will be notified by mail in late April.

The USA National Alumni Association Baldwin County Chapter Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding entering freshman who is a full-time resident of Baldwin County, AL. Academics, activities, and leadership are considered in awarding the scholarship. Recipient will be notified by mail in late April.

Alumni & Faculty/Staff Awards

Lisa Bethea Kavanagh Outstanding Young Alumni Award | Application
This award recognizes a USA graduate who is 40 years of age or younger at the time of nomination for their early career accomplishments; the impact of their community service and volunteer efforts, and personal development. The award is presented to acknowledge alumni who are making a substantial mark early on in their career and show promise of significant professional distinction in the future.

Andy and Carol Denny National Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching | Application available in 2015
This award acknowledges the central role of teaching at USA by recognizing faculty for their outstanding teaching contributions. The award is open to any full-time instructional faculty member with at least five years of teaching experience at the University of South Alabama. No college/school or departmental quotas shall exist regarding the number of nominations submitted. Recipients are not eligible for nomination for three consecutive years following the award.

Olivia Rambo McGlothren National Alumni Association Outstanding Scholar
This award is to honor faculty for high achievements in the realm of scholarship as appropriate to his discipline. The award is open to any full-time faculty member who has been at USA for at least five years. No school or departmental quotas shall exist regarding the number of nominations submitted.

Beth and Don Davis National Alumni Association Excellence in Advising | Application available in 2015
This award acknowledges the importance of advising at USA by annually recognizing faculty and staff for their outstanding advising contributions. The award is open to any full-time instructional faculty member or academic advisor staff member with at least three years of advising experience at the University of South Alabama. No college/school or departmental quotas shall exist regarding the number of nominations submitted. Recipients are not eligible for nomination for three consecutive years following the award.

Christie Miree National Alumni Association Outstanding Employee Service Awards | Application
These awards recognize the excellent service provided to students, alumni, and other constituencies by the employees of the University of South Alabama. To accomplish this goal, the Association recognizes selected University employees annually for their outstanding service and dedication.
