SH Enterprises Board Chair Sheila Hodges will speak at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell College of Business as part of RBC Bank’s Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, Jan. 26 from 6 to 7:15 p.m.
Hodges’ lecture is part of the RBC Distinguished Lectureship Series at the USA Mitchell College of Business, the first lectureship at the Mitchell College of Business. The bank covers the costs of two annual lectures on banking or a related field.
Hodges is sole owner and chairman of the board for SH Enterprises, the umbrella company for the companies of Century 21 Meyer Real Estate, Meyer Vacation Rentals and Meyer Services. SH Enterprises also includes Starr Textile Services, a commercial laundry and textile rental business with facilities in Foley and New Orleans, serving customers in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.
Meyer Real Estate, now Century 21 Meyer Real Estate, was the original organization and was established in 1967. Hodges began her real estate career at Meyer Real Estate in the summer of 1978 as one of six sales agents. She progressed to managing partner and owner over 30 years ago. Meyer Vacation Rentals and Meyer Services manage and provide services for over 1,700 vacation rental houses and condominiums on the Alabama and Florida coast. Together all the companies of SH Enterprises employ more than 200 full-time workers, 300 seasonal workers and over 40 associates.
Over the years, Hodges has acquired many designations and certifications as well as achieving many awards for Meyer Real Estate. Meyer Real Estate was named by the University of South Alabama’s Small Business Development Center as Alabama’s 2002-2003 Woman-Owned Business of the Year. Hodges was named the 2010 Walton M. Vines Free Enterprise Person of the Year and was the first female in the history of the award to receive this designation. Under Hodges’ leadership, Meyer Real Estate also won the Alabama Quality Award in the Small Business sector. Meyer also received the Real Estate Company People’s Choice award from Sunny 105.7 and the Best of Baldwin from Gulf Coast Newspapers.
Hodges is a Past President of the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Baldwin County United, and Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau. She also served as the Baldwin County co-chairman for Envision Coastal Alabama and as a board member of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. She is the immediate past-chair of the Alabama Real Estate Commission; a member of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board; a board member of Gulf Shores Orange Beach Tourism; and, City of Foley Board of Adjustments and Appeals. She serves on the Advisory Board for the Mitchell College of Business Center for Real Estate Studies. She also served on the Alabama Coastal Recovery Commission appointed by Gov. Bob Riley. |
