The University of South Alabama recently recognized students for their outstanding work as members of the USA Greek Councils during the 2012 Greek Awards Banquet. These students are members of the College Panhellenic Council, the Interfraternity Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
Chi Omega Fraternity for women and Sigma Chi Fraternity were awarded the Dean’s Cups, which is the highest honor given to the Greek-letter organizations. In addition to the Dean’s cup awards, Courtni Evans a member of Phi Mu Sorority of CPC and Angela Thompson, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., of NPHC were each named Greek Woman of the Year and Alex Wiles, a member of Sigma Chi of IFC was named Greek Man of the Year.
Greek Scholarship and Academic Awards were given to Chi Omega Fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
New Member awards were given to Robin Johns of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Vikash Pernenkil of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and Kierra Station of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Outstanding President Awards were given to NPHC organization members Jeleesa Foster and Kellend Williams. Additional awards were given by outgoing CPC, IFC and NPHC Presidents. Cagle Sharpe presented his president’s award to Danny Nguyen, Angelia Thompson presented her award to Landi Wilson and Kellie Grandquest presented her award to Katy Stembridge.
The Panhellenic Spirit Award was presented to Phi Mu Fraternity; The Public Service Award was given to CPC representative Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, IFC representative Sigma Chi Fraternity, and NPHC representative Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; The Campus Involvement award was presented to CPC representative Chi Omega Fraternity, IFC representative Sigma Chi and NPHC representative Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Office of Greek Life at USA oversees 19 sororities and fraternities and the three governing councils: National Pan-Hellenic Council, College Panhellenic Council, and the Interfraternity Council. Fall Formal Recruitment for College Panhellenic occurs the week before classes begin, and the Interfraternity Council groups recruit the third week of fall classes. The National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities will hold interest meetings in the fall and spring with intake decided on later in the year.
