Holocaust Writing and Art Competition

Middle School Division: Grades 5-8
High School Division: Grades 9-12
GUIDELINES
General
- Each entry must include a competition cover sheet.
(see attached copy) - One entry per student per category. Students may enter in more than one category.
- Deadline for entries—April 1, 2017
Prose:
- Must be typed
- Must deal with Holocaust related topic
- Minimum length—500 words (maximum of 750 suggested)
- Double-spaced
- Mail or deliver to Jerry Darring, 5233 Wilhelm Dr., Mobile, AL 36618
Poetry:
- Must be typed
- Must deal with Holocaust related topic
- No restrictions with respect to form or length
- Mail or deliver to Jerry Darring, 5233 Wilhelm Dr., Mobile, AL 36618
Art:
- Must be easily portable, if otherwise, submitted by photos.
- Must deal with Holocaust related topic.
- Deliver entries to Ahavas Chesed Synagogue, 705 Regents Way,
Mobile, AL 36609—(251) 343-6010.
AWARDS:
- First prize short story, poetry, and art, $50
- Second prize short story, poetry, and art, $25
- Honorable mention short story, poetry, and art, no monetary award
- Contest winners may be invited to read their entries. Artwork will be displayed at the Mobile area Yom Hashoah Commemoration 7:00 PM, Sunday, April 23 at Ahavas Chesed Synagogue, 705 Regents Way, Mobile, AL 36609.
Holocaust Writing and Art Competition Entry Form
Put your name on paper entries. All artwork should be clearly labeled with student
name. This sheet must be attached to the entry (art or paper). Entries without entry
forms will not be considered. Written entries with multiple pages must be stapled.
DO NOT place pages in a folder or plastic sleeve. Papers will not be returned: Keep
your own copy. After judging, the student should arrange pick up of artwork at Springhill
Avenue Temple.
