Cade Smelley recently brought home the top prize (President’s Award) from the University of West Alabama’s Annual Research Symposium. Cade presented findings from his work as a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow (SURF) entitled “Effects of Habitat Management on Gopher Tortoise Burrow Distribution”. Cade is a pre-med student double majoring in Biology and Philosophy and will start medical school at the University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine in 2021. Cade is mentored by Dr. Adam Chupp and his project was co-authored by Mr. Joel Borden (Biology) and Dr. Steve Schultze (Geography).
