Faculty and Staff Awards Reception Recognize Outstanding Contributions Across the College of Education and Professional Studies

Faculty and staff from the College of Education and Professional Studies gathered on Thursday, April 18, for the annual Faculty and Staff Awards ceremony. Hosted by Dean Dr. Angela Barlow, the celebration honored individuals whose excellence in teaching, research, service, and support continues to advance the college's mission and enrich the lives of students across the Gulf Coast.
The 2025 award recipients are:
Early Career Faculty Award
Dr. Lu Ding, assistant professor, Counseling and Instructional Sciences
Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award
Dr. Thomas Adams, associate professor, Integrative Studies
Faculty Excellence in Research Award
Dr. Caitlyn Hauff, associate professor, Health, Kinesiology and Sport
Outstanding Advising and Mentoring Award
Dr. Ryan Colquhoun, assistant professor, Health, Kinesiology and Sport
Outstanding Service Award
Dr. Shelley Holden, professor, Health, Kinesiology and Sport
Grant Writing Award
Dr. Kathy Thompson, director, Center for Innovation in Postsecondary Education
Gerry Jean Clark Staff Excellence Award
Dominique Broughton House, graduate records specialist, Office of Student Services
Dean’s Award of Excellence
John M. Tyson, Jr., former Mobile County district attorney and director of the Helping
Family Initiative, a program of Volunteers of America

The college also recognized two faculty members with a special acknowledgement for their dedication and service as they prepare to retire this year:
Dr. Peggy Delmas, Associate Professor, Leadership and Teacher Education, who has served the University of South Alabama for 19 years and the Alabama higher education system for a total of 28 years.
Dr. Wanda Maulding, Associate Professor, Leadership and Teacher Education, has served the University of South Alabama for 14 years and the Alabama higher education system for a total of 25 years.
Barlow closed the ceremony with heartfelt thanks to all who serve, teach and lead within the college, affirming the lasting impact of their work on students, communities and the future of education in Alabama and beyond.
