USA Partners with Inha University for Short-Term, Winter Program

In January, 14 students from Inha University in Incheon, South Korea, visited the University of South Alabama for a short-term, winter program. The students had the opportunity to learn from faculty in the College of Nursing and Covey College of Allied Health Professions, visit USA Health facilities, experience student life and tour significant areas in Mobile and along the Gulf Coast.
The program is led by Dr. Kimberly Williams, professor of community mental health nursing at USA, Dr. Scott Choi, a faculty member at Inha University, and Joy Aull, interim director of the USA Center for Continuing Education and Conference Services.
The program began after Williams met Dr. Eun Jin Lee, a graduate of USA’s psychiatric nurse practitioner post-graduate certificate program. After Lee moved to South Korea to begin teaching at Inha University, she invited Williams to be a visiting professor. Upon Williams return to Mobile, she and Lee discussed the possibility of beginning a short-term, winter program for Inha University students to visit the University of South Alabama.
Williams was later introduced to Dr. Scott Choi, and they have since worked closely
with the Center for Continuing Education and Conferencing Services to bring the program
together. The first group of six students visited USA in January 2023. After the success
of the inaugural program, Williams was quickly approached about planning this year’s
program. In 2024, visits to allied health and engineering departments were added to
the program to give students an
extensive look at the health sciences programs offered at USA.
Along with the discussion of a program for Inha students came the development of a faculty-led study abroad program for USA students to visit Inha University. The Integrated Professions in South Korea study abroad program will be led by Dr. Kimberly Williams in Summer 2024. Applications are now open.
