Williams Accepted into Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Program

In recognition of her outstanding achievements and exemplary service, Dr. Kimberly Williams, professor of community mental health nursing, was recently accepted into the prestigious Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners program. Williams along with 50 other inductees will be inducted on June 19 at the 2025 AANP National Conference in San Diego, California.

Williams earned a Doctor of Nursing Science from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama. 

Her research interests include adolescent/child mental health screening, cultural context of experiences and mental health, instrument development, motivational interviewing, non-suicidal self-injury and qualitative descriptive research. To date, she has  29 academic publications and her work has been referenced in 74 articles nationally and internationally. 

"I am overwhelmed and honored to receive recognition as an FAANP new fellow. This recognition of my work, in collaboration with my colleagues, around positive patient-centered communication through the use of motivational interviewing and integrated behavioral healthcare highlights my efforts to make positive impacts on the nursing profession,” Williams said. “I would like to thank Drs. Hall, Fruh, McCoy and Harlan for their support over the years with these endeavors."

The Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to healthcare. The program is dedicated to the advancement of nurse practitioners and the high-quality healthcare they provide.
