Ifezue Obiako to be awarded DoD SMART scholarship.
Congratulations to Ifezue Obiako (Ivy to his friends) for landing a prestigious SMART scholarship. The Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship was created over 10 years ago to identify talented and innovative scientists, engineers and researchers.
Ivy is in South’s Systems Engineering Ph.D. program. His research interest is in the area of autonomous infrastructure in support of autonomous vehicles. His advisor is Dr. Robert Cloutier.
SMART scholars receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, as well as summer internships that range from 8 to 12 weeks. Upon degree completion, scholars begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring facility. Ifezue’s sponsoring facility is the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, MS.
Ivy becomes the third SMART scholar selected from South since 2015.
