National Mortar Board Fellowship Recipient
Posted on April 30, 2021 by USA College of Engineering
Senior in Chemical Engineering at the University of South Alabama, Hanna Bobinger, has been awarded a national Mortar Board Fellowship for post baccalaureate study. Seven fellowships were awarded to members in more than 200 chapters nationwide, based on the Mortar Board ideals of robust scholarship, meaningful leadership, and dedicated service to one's alma mater.
This summer, Hanna will use an awarded stipend from the College of Medicine Summer Medical Students' Research Program. She will be working with Dr. Amy Nelson in the USA College of Medicine, Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. She will be studying amyloid-beta oligomers, which are implicated in Alzheimer's disease to see if they cause brain pericytes to contract via the p75 neurotrophin receptor. Because pericytes regulate cerebral blood flow, their contraction compromises blood-brain barrier integrity.
After graduation, Hanna will be attending the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
Congratulations Hanna and best of luck on your future endeavors!
