Meet the Department of Accounting
The Department of Accounting is the best department that I have had the pleasure to be a part of during my 47 years in higher education. The faculty are some of the best and brightest in the world and they help prepare our students for careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, and governmental and not-for-profit accounting. The department faculty teach seminars for Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) as well as performing consulting for area businesses and not-for-profit entities. The department sponsors a Meet the Firms career day to assist students in acquiring internships and full-time jobs. The Department of Accounting is separately accredited by AACSB International. There were 901 ( about 30% of all business schools) business schools accredited by AACSB as of July 2021 with only 190 ( less than 15% of all programs) accounting programs have supplemental accreditation with AACSB.
The Department of Accounting has a very active advisory board consisting of 18 accountants from the Gulf Coast business community. The advisory board members provide the department with advice on accounting curriculum, help us understand changes and updates to the CPA Examination, and help our students obtain internships and full-time jobs in the accounting field. Our advisory board provides an extra dimension to our department that assists us in strategic planning and keeping up with the latest changes in accounting standards for the profession.
