The University of South Alabama Flute Choir and Celtic Crúe, directed by Dr. Andra Bohnet, will present their Fall Concert on Thursday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The Flute Choir will perform Dr. Bohnet’s new arrangement “Variants on Third Mode Melody, 1567” by Thomas Tallis, after the Vaughan-Williams “Fantasia.” The flutists will double on percussion on the evocative “Kokopelli” by Robert Raines. Other works on the program include a transcription of the first movement of Mozart’s “Jupiter Symphony," “Flutes and Vegetables” by Jonathan Cohen, and “Greek Tableau” by Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda.

After a brief intermission, the Celtic Crue will present three new sets of toe tapping jigs, reels and achingly beautiful slow airs performed on simple system Irish style flutes. This is the only ensemble at the collegiate level in the country that combines traditional instruments and culturally appropriate instrumental techniques with a flute choir like sensibility.
