USA Woodwind Ensembles Fall Concert November 24 at Laidlaw
Posted on November 19, 2014 by Keith Bohnet
The University of South Alabama Department of Music will present USA Woodwind Ensembles in concert, directed by Dr. Rebecca Mindock, on Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. This semester's concert will primarily feature works for clarinet ensemble, both original and arranged, in a wide variety of styles.
The program will feature two original clarinet ensemble works, both written by contemporary Japanese composers: "Spirit Road II" by Eiji Suzuki and "A Picture Book Without a Picture" by Masanori Taruya. In addition to these pieces, the program will include transcriptions of George Gershwin's Prelude No. 2, Eric Whitacre's "Sleep," and both Vaughan Williams' Phantasy Quintet and his Six Studies in English Folk Song. As has become a USA Woodwind Ensembles fall concert tradition, the USA Clarinet Choir will also perform a fun and festive arrangement of traditional Klezmer music.
Tickets for this Musical Arts Series event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (cash or check only). Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call (251) 460-7116 or (251) 460-6136.
