USA Flute Choir and Celtic Crúe Spring Concert April 2 at Laidlaw (7:30)
Posted on March 29, 2016 by Keith Bohnet
The University of South Alabama Flute Choir and Celtic Crúe, directed by Dr. Andra Bohnet, will present their Spring Concert on Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The Flute Choir will perform both large and chamber works for multiple flutes including the U.S. collegiate premiere of “Xanthem” by Melvin Lauf, Jr. which was written in 2015 for the U.S. Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and will be performed on five piccolos!
After a brief intermission, the Celtic Crúe will present four new sets of Irish traditional music performed on simple system Irish style flutes. This is the only ensemble at the collegiate level in the country that combines traditional instruments and culturally appropriate instrumental techniques with a flute choir like sensibility. On the opening and closing sets they will be joined by the USA World Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Luis Rivera.
Tickets for this Musical Arts Series event will be sold at the door only.
