Audition Information Released for Spring 2017 Instrumental Concert Ensembles
Posted on December 27, 2016 by William Petersen
Auditions for Concert Instrumental Ensembles will occur at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center, Room 1072 during the first two days of classes. We encourage all instrumentalists to sign up and audition for placement in one of our two auditioned concert bands.
The USA Wind Ensemble rehearses MWF from 11:15AM-12:05PM in the Laidlaw Rehearsal Room. It is conducted by Dr. Will Petersen. The USA Symphony Band is conducted by Dr. Jason Rinehart, and rehearses TTH from 11:00AM-12:15PM. The USA Symphony Orchestra rehearses on Thursday evenings for winds and percussion and is conducted by Dr. Robert Seebacher.
Non-majors who are interested in a one-night a week concert band experience are encouraged
to sign up for University Band (MUO137). The University Band meets on Monday evenings
from 6:00-8:00PM and is conducted by both Dr. Petersen and Dr. Rinehart and focuses
on standard literature of the concert band. This ensemble is also open for anyone
in the university community, including faculty and staff, by simply registering for
the course (at either the .5 or 1 hour level). Additionally, there is no audition
requirement for participation, however you must have participated in your high school
band program or have equivalent proficiency. More information on the University Band
can be obtained by calling the Department of Music at (251) 460-6136.
Note on Orchestra Auditions
Please note, some excerpts are specifically indicated to be prepared only if you intend to be considered for the USA Symphony Orchestra. Unless otherwise indicated, please prepare all audition excerpts for consideration for Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band. Please read your audition material carefully.
Auditions are open to both non-majors and majors! We encourage each of you to audition!
