Rachel Nozny, Guest Artist Flute Recital February 8 at Laidlaw

Flutist Rachel Nozny will present a program of mostly modern flute and piccolo music on Wednesday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. Highlights of the concert will include the world premiere of composer Adam Silverman's "Together" for flute and vibraphone (featuring percussionist Dr. Brian Nozny), selections of modern works for flute and piccolo with pianist Dr. Robert Holm, and a flute trio with the Mobile Symphony flute section (also featuring Andra Bohnet and Travis Jones).

Tickets for this Musical Arts Series concert will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (cash or check only). About the guest artist

Rachel Nozny is currently piccoloist with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and an Adjunct Instructor at Troy University in Troy, Alabama where she is also active as an educator and performer in the local area. She holds a Bachelors of Music degree in Flute Performance from Mercer University, and a Masters of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of Kentucky. Rachel studied with flutists Kathy Farmer, Kelly Via, Gordon Cole, and most recently with world-renowned soloist Carol Wincenc.

Rachel’s previous engagements include Principal Flutist of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2012, with whom she was a featured soloist in 2012, and Adjunct Instructor of Music at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND. She also performs with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra (Niceville, FL), Pensacola Symphony Orchestra (Pensacola, FL), Albany Symphony Orchestra (Albany, GA), and the Macon Symphony Orchestra (Macon, GA). While at the University of Kentucky, Rachel was principal flute of the UK Symphony Orchestra, and the UK Wind Ensemble with whom she toured China and was a featured soloist in 2008. During this time she also performed on recordings with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Michael Colgrass and folk-music legend Arlo Guthrie.

Since moving to Troy, Nozny has performed as a guest soloist with the University of South Alabama Flute Studio, Mercer University Flute Choir, as a guest artist at the 36th Southern Regional Conference of the College Music Society and the 2016 National Flute Association Convention in San Diego. Nozny is an active member of the National Flute Association, Phi Kappa Phi honors society, and is the current Exhibitors Coordinator for the MidSouth Flute Society. In addition to her duties at Troy, she is active as an educator in the Pike County public school system and an advocate of new music and live performance.
