Department of Music seeks applications for Assistant Director of Bands

The University of South Alabama's Department of Music invites applications for a non-tenure-track, continuing, 9-month Instructor of Music position in the role of Assistant Director of Bands/Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. The starting date is August 15, 2017.
Qualifications: Master of Music required. Candidates should show evidence of successful secondary and/or college teaching in concert and marching band settings as well as teaching and performance experience with collegiate drumlines/front ensembles.
Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands with the teaching and administration of a comprehensive university band program, including three concert bands, the 250-member Jaguar Marching Band, and the 80-member Jaguar Pep Band. Direct the Jaguar Marching Band Percussion, including the Jaguar Drumline and Front Ensemble. The successful candidate will conduct the Jaguar Pep Band for Women’s Basketball and the USA University Band (non-music majors). Also, the successful candidate will teach Percussion Techniques in the fall semester and will have experience in halftime show design, including arranging for drumline and front ensemble. The successful candidate will serve as Recruitment Coordinator for Jaguar Marching Band and Department of Music and assist with the recruitment and retention of talented undergraduate and graduate music majors, minors, and non-majors for the Department of Music and the university band program.
In addition, teaching duties may be assigned in areas of the successful candidate’s strengths such as introduction to music, or applied music, as appropriate. Contribution to the scholarly advancement of the field through research and/or creative activities is expected. The successful candidate will also serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned.
