Robert Murray, Professor of Trumpet at Columbus State University, will perform a guest trumpet recital in the Recital Hall of the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 20. In collaboration with pianist Alina Sarkisyan-Bennett, the recital will consist of a wide variety of highly interesting and entertaining works for trumpet and piano.

Tickets for this event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens. Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call (251) 460-7116 or (251) 460-6136.

About the Performer

Praised for his “golden tone” and “convincing performances” Dr. Robert Murray is a diverse performer in both classical and jazz idioms and has been featured at international conferences and in recital and masterclasses across the US. Currently Principal Trumpet of the North Charleston POPS! in Charleston, South Carolina, he is a former member of the Dallas Brass, and has also served as principal trumpet with orchestras in the US and Mexico and has toured and performed with a variety of artists, big bands and Broadway productions. Hailed for their “wonderful music rapport”, “impeccable intonation”, and “exquisite performances” he and his wife, oboist Lauren Murray, perform together as the duo Harmonie del Sur. Performing all original works composed for them, they have performed in recital and given masterclasses throughout the US including Carnegie Hall and the Strathmore Music Center and at a variety of international conferences.

Dr. Murray currently serves as Professor of Trumpet in the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University; his students can be found pursuing successful careers across the country as teachers, professors, performers and trumpet manufacturing specialists. Dr. Murray is honored to serve as the Archivist of the International Guild; Columbus State University is the home of the ITG Archives. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet from the University of North Texas. He studied trumpet with Keith Johnson, Gerald Webster, Fred Sautter, Roy Cummings, Claude Gordon and Ray Johnson. Dr. Murray is a Performing Artist for Mauriat Trumpets.
