Liminal - Andra Bohnet and Andy Kruspe

Flutist Andra Bohnet and percussionist Andy Kruspe will make their Mobile debut as their new duo, Liminal, on Wednesday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on the campus of the University of South Alabama. They will share their passion for Celtic music while exploring other traditions for flute and percussion.

What, you may ask, is Liminal? A dictionary definition is “occupying a position at, or on both sides, of a boundary or threshold.” Andra and Andy feel pretty smug about playing the oldest instruments in our collective human history! In addition to their mutual passion for Celtic music with flute and bodhran, they also explore other traditions for flute and percussion with a little technology thrown into the mix for fun. Yes, you will hear spirited jigs, lively reels and gorgeous slow airs, but you will also be transported to other places and times from across the globe. You don’t want to miss this!!

Also, this evening Andy will also be giving the World Premiere performance of a work for bodhran and percussion ensemble composed for him by Brian Nozny entitled “Layanam” with three members of the USA Percussion Ensemble.

Tickets for this Department of Music event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (cash or check only).
