The USA Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. William H. Petersen, will perform their Fall Concert "Masterworks of Europe and the Americas" on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. The concert will open in with John Philip Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea" followed by Lucien Cailliet's magnificent arrangement of "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" from Act II of Richard Wagner's Lohengrin conducted by Associate Director Bands, Dr. Jason Rinehart. In celebration of the centennial of Leonard Bernstein the first half of the program closes with the Suite from "Mass" composed for the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1971. The arrangement, originally for brass quintet and wind ensemble has been adapted for only wind ensemble by talented composer and arranger Michael Sweeney.

The second half of the program will begin with Professor Matthew Greenwood conducting a transcription of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in B-flat Major" set for the wind band by Roland Moehlman. The concert concludes with Paul Hindemith's epic work for concert band, Symphony in B-flat, composed for the United States Marine Band.
