On Tuesday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m., the USA Wind Ensemble, Dr. William H. Petersen, conductor, will open the 2019 semester with a collage of works that will be a treat for the listener. The concert, held in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center will open with Mark Spede's transcription of Kevin Puts "Millenium Canons." Dr. Jason Rinehart, Associate Director of Bands, will lead the group in John Corigliano's "Lullaby for Natalie" which will be followed by Grainger's charming adaption of "Spoon River." The first half of the concert showcases our very own Dr. Arie VandeWaa, Instructor of Trombone at USA, in Arthur Pryor's "Fantastic Polka".

Following the intermission, the Wind Ensemble will present Paul Hindemith's landmark Symphony in B-flat. Written at the height of his compositional fame in the early 1950s, the work is divided into three movements and includes both traditional and modern elements that have helped make it one of the most recognizable of all Hindemith's compositions. The concert closes with the rousing Opus. 99 March of Sergei Prokofiev. We hope you will join us for what is sure to be a remarkable evening of music!
