Posted on January 30, 2015 by Keith Lynn
USA’s DayZero Cyber Competition Club recently participated in Clemson’s first ever GhostRed Capture The Flag competition (http://ghostredctf.tumblr.com/) on January 30th, which was sponsored by GE. The competition involved 16 teams from universities around the southeast region who were presented with almost 200 different Jeopardy-style cyber challenges classified as beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The challenges tested knowledge in programming, cyber physical systems, social engineering, reverse engineering, network security, forensics, and penetration testing. USA fielded two teams of 4 students at the competition who placed 7th and 8th in the competition overall. The students learned about SCADA systems and network security as they worked together on a variety of challenges that tested their problem solving skills and knowledge of cyber security tools. DayZero is a USA student organization dedicated to furthering cybersecurity knowledge and skills through participation in regional and international cyber competitions and capture the flag events.
