Faculty members from the University of South Alabama led an insightful presentation on workforce development and career readiness at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Annual Meeting, held December 7-10, 2024, in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Julie Estis, Dr. Carol Sawyer, and Dr. Angela Coleman delivered a presentation entitled, “Enhance Workforce Development and Career Readiness by Leveraging Ongoing Assessment and the QEP.” Their session provided a framework for integrating Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiatives and ongoing assessment practices to move higher education programs from discussion to tangible action in preparing students for career success.

The presentation addressed key questions shaping the future of higher education, including:

  • How can liberal arts and STEM programs align with workforce development goals?
  • What do career-readiness learning outcomes look like in diverse academic disciplines?
  • How can ongoing assessment practices support these efforts?

By exploring these critical topics, the presenters emphasized the importance of embedding career-readiness skills into academic programs through structured assessment and strategic planning. Their insights offered practical strategies for institutions seeking to strengthen student employability and align academic outcomes with evolving workforce demands.

The SACSCOC Annual Meeting convenes higher education leaders to discuss accreditation, quality enhancement, and institutional effectiveness. The University of South Alabama’s contributions to these conversations reaffirm its commitment to academic excellence and student success.
