Pro Devo - Beyond the Conference Experience

Presented by Lexie Payne and Jessica Martin, Auburn University
Location: Student Center Room 205

Professional Development serves as a cornerstone of the field of Higher Education and provides a diverse area for professionals to learn outside of the classroom. In this session, we will discuss professional development in a 360-degree model. Our focus will be on the supervisor’s perspective, specifically, on group and individual staff development. We will also discuss taking the driver’s seat of a professional’s own pro-devo at a time of limited financial means and a push to learn in more creative and diverse ways. Come join us in our own developmental journey and learn with us!

Active Engagement in RA Training

We plan on covering various forms of active engagement, pros and cons of engagement, and our experience with building RA training. We also plan to collect feedback from our audience, and plan to work collaboratively to share new ideas as well as ineffective means of training.

Tailoring Your Training Week: RA Training

Presented by Jaleyn Pearson, Auburn University
Location: Student Center Room 211

Fall RA Training sets the tone and energy for the resident assistant staff going into the new academic year. It is important that the Summer/Fall RA training program sets the foundation for resident assistants to be educated, aware, and able to enforce and/or execute policies, procedures, and the residential curriculum. In order to facilitate a successful RA training week, it is important to capitalize on RA feedback to create a dynamic training schedule. Furthermore, training content must emphasize intentionality, provide hands-on learning opportunities, and keep students engaged during each session.
