Three University of South Alabama students each have been awarded a $3,000 scholarship through the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program to study abroad during the summer of 2025.
The student award recipients in USA’s College of Arts and Sciences are Destani Alverado and Abigail Ward. Alvarado, a senior, is a strategic communications major with a focus on advertising and public relations will study in Greece. Ward, a junior English and modern languages and literature double major will study abroad in Germany. The third recipient is senior Jason Conrad, a computer science major, who will also study in Greece.
"I am immensely proud of these students for representing South Alabama on a global scale through the Gilman Scholarship,” said Dr. Bri Ard, executive director for global engagement. “Receiving this award and studying abroad will contribute significantly to their personal and professional growth."
The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman Scholarship is part of a grant program that enables students to study or intern abroad, gaining skills that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. The nationally competitive Gilman Scholarship is open to undergraduates nationwide and fosters cultural exchange.
