Dr. Madhuri Mulekar, professor and chair of mathematics and statistics at the University of South Alabama, has been selected to attend a higher education leadership institute July 9-22 sponsored by the Higher Education Resource Services organization.
Mulekar will be part of the HERS Luce Program for Women in STEM Leadership. She is the recipient of a nearly $7,000 Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship that will provide full tuition, accommodations, meals and travel for her to attend the two-week summer institute at Bryn Mawr College near Philadelphia, which will provide the knowledge, skills and perspectives needed for advancing female leaders in higher education.
Mulekar is one of 60 women leaders from across the United States selected, following a rigorous review of her research, and she is one of only 12 Luce scholarship recipients.
“I am honored to be selected as a participant of this women’s leadership institute,” she said. “I look forward to benefitting from the intensive leadership experience, and I plan to return to South and apply the knowledge and information that I receive to my current role as professor and chair.”
Mulekar’s research is in Selection and Ranking Procedures, Sequential Estimation and Testing Procedures, and Statistics Education. She earned her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. She has written numerous scientific manuscripts and other printed and online instructional materials, along with receiving several awards for her outstanding work in higher education and community service.
A part of the HERS Luce Program is the development of a HERS STEM community. The goals are to provide support and encouragement to women in STEM and to develop strategies for advancing a diverse cadre of women into STEM leadership roles.
The HERS Institute, headquartered at the University of Denver in Colorado, is committed to transforming academia by creating and sustaining a community of diverse women leaders by focusing on mentorship, gender equity and inclusion on today’s campuses.
