Posted on June 1, 2016
The University of South Alabama raised more than $628,000 during its 2016 Employee and Retiree Annual Fund as part of the Upward & Onward comprehensive fundraising campaign.
“We have great employees, so this is a celebration of a successful campaign,” Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Johnson announced recently to faculty and staff.
In this year’s campaign:
- 3,138 employees and retirees participated.
- 60 percent of employees gave.
- 450 participants gave their first gift ever.
- 130 people donated $1,000 or more.
The gifts were made to 317 programs, including 116 endowed accounts that are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative.
This was the 13th year for the Annual Fund. In all, $6.7 million has been raised, including matching gifts.
The campaign provides resources to advance the University by, among other ways:
- Increasing the number of scholarships available to students.
- Recruiting top faculty and health care providers.
- Ensuring that USA's health care and academic programs remain state-of-the-art.
The 2016 Annual Fund campaign leaders were Dr. Bob Wood, dean of the Mitchell College of Business; Warren Greene, assistant to the administrator, University of South Alabama Medical Center; and retiree Dr. Dale Adams, former vice president for student affairs.
Upward & Onward: A Campaign for the University of South Alabama is a $150 million fundraising campaign that will elevate and accelerate every aspect of USA's mission — education, research, service, health care, economic development, athletics, and the arts and humanities. Five focused priorities form the components of the Upward & Onward campaign: Student Access and Success; Enhancement of Research and Graduate Education; Global Engagement; Excellence in Health Care; and University-Community Engagement.
