The University of South Alabama College of Nursing Associate Professor Dr. Wesley Davis has been selected for induction into the 2024 Class of Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing.
This recognition is considered one of “the highest honors in nursing,” according to the Academy.
“Being recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing is an incredible honor,” Davis said. “It feels immensely rewarding to be acknowledged alongside some of the most accomplished leaders in the nursing profession. The recognition affirms the dedication and hard work that I’ve invested in nursing policy, research and academia. This is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the support and collaboration of my colleagues, mentors and students who have all contributed to this achievement.”
From this recognition, Davis hopes to influence and advance the nursing profession.
“Being part of the American Academy of Nursing provides unique opportunities for networking, collaboration and advocacy,” Davis said. “I look forward to engaging with other leaders to address critical issues in healthcare. I hope this recognition will amplify my efforts to improve patient care, enhance nursing education and foster a more equitable healthcare system.
“My work involves exploring pathways to enhance opportunities for licensure and regulation, which are critical for enabling emergency nurse practitioners to practice to the full extent of their education and training. I am committed to mentoring the next generation of nurse practitioners and fostering a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, compassion and innovation.”
With two graduate degrees from South, Davis has earned several nursing certifications. He also has numerous professional accolades, which include authoring peer-reviewed articles and editorials in peer-reviewed journals, books and book chapters.
“I am delighted that Dr. Davis was selected to join the American Academy of Nursing,” said Dr. Heather Hall, dean of South’s College of Nursing. “We are exceptionally proud of his dedication, hard work and truly extraordinary achievements as a nurse leader.”
