Upgrade Your Skills, Advance Your Career

The University of South Alabama recently launched undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
The new programs were launched to meet the significant demand for English instructors in hundreds of jobs available throughout the world, according to USA faculty. Through the undergraduate and graduate certificates in TEFL or TESL, USA will prepare students to teach English abroad, either online or in the classroom.
“This is a four-course plus internship program to help certificate candidates learn how to teach English to non-English speakers,” said Dr. Laureen Fregeau, associate professor in the department of counseling and instructional sciences in the College of Education and Professional Studies. “Once the program is completed, certificate holders will be able to teach English to children and adults with options to work all over the world.”
Those who are interested in traveling can utilize this credential to work internationally, said Fregeau, adding that these skills could be utilized for a secondary career.
“There is a high demand for qualified instructors in Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America,” Fregeau added.
