Messenger Publishes Latest Book
Posted on April 30, 2020 by War and Memory
David Messenger's latest book War and Public Memory, is organized around case studies, each showing how a different European country has grappled
publicly with the memory of a particular conflict. Memory scholar Sara J. Brenneis
writes, “War and Public Memory is a gripping story of Europe’s most divisive conflicts.
In lucid prose, Messenger traces how loss has been carved into the European landscape.
This vital study demonstrates that past atrocities continue to shape national identity,
while memorials transform war into productive mechanisms of memory.” This is Messenger's
fourth book.
If not for the COVID shutdown, the Center would have been hosting a book event to celebrate Dr. Messenger's achievement this week. We hope to be able to reschedule some time in the new school year.
