A Study Abroad Poem

Studying abroad
Something colleges applaud
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity
And you have the option to go with some of the Jag community
Hundreds of programs are offered at South
It is a decision you should not live without
Quito, Ecuador is where I went
South Alabama is what I represent
Trust me when I say this choice comes with no discontent
Over the course of my trip we focused on healthcare
And how they do it over there
This made us much more aware
Of the privileges we take advantage of
We really should be spreading more love
We helped out at a pre-school
And had the privilege of meeting all the little jewels
The children were the sweetest
Our short interactions made me realize I feel deepest
For all of these children that touched my heart
And made the worst part of my trip being having to depart
Galapagos Islands was our final destination
This is where we gained tons more information
I learned that this generation
Needs to have more determination
In making the world better for all
Because the world is not so small
There is more than just you and me
There are people who agree
That things need to change
I know it might sound strange
But studying abroad may be the first stage
In broadening our views,
Helping us seem less confused,
And walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
