Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology!

Dr. Kimberly Smith

Our department is located on the first floor of the Health Sciences Building, which we share with other departments in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions and the College of Nursing. We are proud to offer three dedicated classroom spaces, the USA Speech and Hearing Clinic, and 10 independent faculty research labs. Our faculty educate and mentor students across all four of our academic programs, from undergraduate to graduate.

Our mission centers on our most important stakeholders: the students of the University of South Alabama and the patients and clients from the Gulf Coast region who receive services at the USA Speech and Hearing Center. These stakeholders benefit from the expertise of nationally and internationally recognized, full-time faculty who are actively engaged in clinical education, academic instruction, and research aimed at advancing best practices in speech-language pathology and audiology.

Our graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology (MS SLP) and Audiology (AuD) have maintained continuous accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology for over 50 years. This longstanding success is a testament to our outstanding faculty, talented students, and the unwavering support of the College and University since the department’s founding in 1967.
